Lucas Macaluso, piano

“Born into a musical family, I began piano lessons at 8 years old with great reluctance. Even thoughLucas Macaluso I loved music, it wasn’t until high school where I unlocked the power of improvisation, and I began to visit the piano much more willingly. By the end of my senior year I was the recipient of the The Louis Armstrong Award, given to one student per school who demonstrates “outstanding musical achievement and an incredible dedication to the program”.

After moving to Nashville, TN to pursue a degree in Marketing and a minor in music, I remained in Nashville and freelanced as piano instructor, session player, and performer, eventually joining country singer Craig Campbell and making my way to the Grand Ole Opry stage. I moved to Los Angeles in late 2019 to pursue a career in music publishing as a producer, and quickly signed an exclusive producer deal with Electric Feel, whose roster includes names such as Post Malone & Iann Dior.

As a piano instructor I like to think back to the tantrums I had about going to my lessons and take that into consideration. I believe that nothing is “off-limits” or too advanced for any student at any level, and if they think that learning blues is more fun than Mozart, then perhaps we should prioritize improvising rather than reading, but never neglecting either. Essentially, I’d like for the student to be as involved as they care to be in directing what they want to learn about music.”
